5 Common Policy Traps

Read the fine print before you sign.

Trap 1: Radius restrictions

Many policies cap coverage to a 300- or 500-mile radius from your terminal. Cross that line and you may be uninsured. Always confirm radius matches your real lanes.

Trap 2: Commodity exclusions

Hazmat, refrigerated, livestock, autos, or alcohol are often excluded by default. If you haul anything outside "general freight," you need explicit endorsements.

Trap 3: Driver schedule

Coverage usually applies only to drivers listed on your policy. Add a new driver and forget to file? A claim can be denied. Update the schedule before they touch the wheel.

Trap 4: Cargo sub-limits

Your $100K cargo policy may have a $5K sub-limit on electronics or $10K on temperature-controlled items. The headline number isn't the whole story.

Trap 5: Bobtail vs. NTL confusion

If you lease to a carrier, their primary policy stops the moment you go off-dispatch. NTL or bobtail coverage fills that gap — but only one of them, and only in specific situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool actually free?

Yes. The decoder, the glossary cheat sheet, and the policy review through SafeBridge are all free. We make money when truckers come to us for actual coverage — not for explanations.

I already have a policy. Can you check it?

Absolutely. Send your declarations page to info@safebridgeinsurance.com or call (315) 871-0833. A licensed agent will explain every line in plain English and flag any gaps.

Why does my agent use so many acronyms?

Insurance has a long, regulated vocabulary — much of it tied to ISO forms and FMCSA rules. The acronyms are precise, but they're rarely explained well. That's exactly why this tool exists.

What's the difference between Bobtail and NTL?

Bobtail covers liability when you drive the tractor without a trailer. NTL covers liability when you drive for personal reasons (groceries, weekend trips). They overlap, but you usually need one or the other if you lease to a carrier.

Do you offer this in Russian?

Yes. The downloadable glossary is bilingual (English + Russian). For full-Russian agent support, ask for the Russian-language desk when you call SafeBridge.
